Oh Twitter, how long has it been? 3 years? 4? It has been awhile since a spent way too much time scrolling through your feeds and overusing hashtags. I'm back now and better then before because now I can waste time on Twitter and call it professional development. (If only I got CTLE credits for it!)
Did you know you can use Twitter for PD? You can! This week I explored live chats on Twitter.
While I saw some really interesting and neat ideas, quotes, and resources, I was disappointed with the scheduling of these chats.
My schedule this past week was crazy!
Monday: Holiday= I am outside not sitting at a computer
Tuesday: Meeting after school, home at 9pm
Wednesday: Attempt #ELTchat but I was too late, stuck in traffic till 6pm
Thursday: Attempt #langchat, it's every other week, not this week. I did briefly follow #games4ed but it was a little over my head
Friday: Who wants to PD chat on a Friday night after working all week?
So as you can see finding a time to get online to participate in a Twitter chat can be a problem. I wonder if I had bad luck trying to do it this week and would have had better luck another week. My plan is to try this again maybe on Monday and join the #ELLchat. I'll update and let you know :-)
Twitter as PD has benefits. I really like the variety of people I saw and the different kinds of questions and topics. You can check out the backlogs here. There were people from all over the US, teaching a variety of languages who participated. There is a lot of new information and a cool sense of camaraderie. I definitely think I could get a lot out of participating in a live chat with #langchat.
Conclusion:
Twitter Chat = Good PD
Attending Live Twitter Chat = Scheduling Nightmare

Keep trying...they really are worth it. The PD is great but the live chats are truly a thing to be a part of for sure.
